Horses : A Guide To Selection, Care And Enjoyment, 3rd Edition
Published in Paperback by Owl Books (December, 2000)
Average review score:

Good, informative as an education and reference guideI used this book for an animal science class in college. I'm quite familiar with horses, but never the less, this book is definitely recommended for most anyone to have around as a basic horse book. For new horseback riders or owners, I'd definitely recommended it. The author covers essentially every topic imaginable, from behavior, conformation, breeds, stabling, feed, teeth, gaits, handling, conditioning, grooming, illnesses, farriers, diseases, performance, breeding and genetics. Even though I was familiar with most of the material covered, it is extremely handy to have such a book on hand for things like a dental chart for aging, or the wight to energy ratios for various grains. Just a lot of stuff down in writing that you might not always remember off the top of your head.

Average review score:

18 original stories about the ranching WestHot Biscuits is a very highly entertaining and recommended anthology of 18 original stories about the ranching West by both men and women provide a fine Western flavor and diversity, from a story of cowpokes who wrangle bargain horses to Dick Hyson's story of cowboys, truth, and a good yarn. Chatty, revealing, and filled with twists and turns are these old-fashioned Westerns.

Hotel Me: Poems for Gil Evans and Others
Published in Hardcover by Hanging Loose Pr (May, 1994)
Average review score:

Glimpses into a lifeWhen I read this book I was struck by what seemed to be the presence of the author's life in his work. His poetry carries a visuality and immediacy that brings a visceral quality to the work as a whole. I was touched by the personal contact I felt after having immersed myself into the depth of it. This is an author that knows the power of the perfect word or phrase. I highly recommend it for those who seek literature that has a strength beyond mere words.

The truth about old ageNot your usual stuff. A very funny book with advice you can actually use. I say every senior citizen should have a copy. What's more, it makes a good gift if you have friends getting near the senior citizen tag.

The Hum: Call and Response in African American Preaching
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (March, 1995)
Average review score:

superbThis wonderful little book makes me wonder why white male preachers continue to be so breath-takingly dull. As a white woman, I side completely with the courageous, dynamic presentations of Black preachers in all their varieties of discourse. Highly recommended.

Hunky Dory Found It
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (January, 1994)
Average review score:

Fantastic! My discerning 3-year-old loved this one. The story is interesting enough to keep the listener's attention, yet repetitive enough to let him or her participate (e.g. screaming out the title, every other page). Illustrations are great, too. I'm going to buy this for my friends' kids.

The Idea of the Vernacular: An Anthology of Middle English Literary Theory, 1280-1520
Published in Paperback by Pennsylvania State Univ Pr (Txt) (May, 1999)
Average review score:

Medieval Vernacular TheoryAn excellent source-book for anyone studying Middle English. It compiles an extensive selection of excerpts which demonstrate the ways in which medieval English writers struggled with the concept of writing in English, and defended their use of the vernacular. The accompanying essays range from excellent to mediocre, but the texts themselves make the book worth buying. By compiling texts about medieval literary theory, this book begins to fill a major gap in medieval studies.
